Concert in Meerane 17.03.2001
Hello to all dedicated fans of Fancy!
On behalf of Thomas Ullrich from Dörentrup in Germany ) and myself ( Lone
Kristensen from Aarhus in Denmark ),I would like to tell you the story about our
trip to Meerane in the east of Germany and the concert in discothek 'M4'
( Fancy , Silent Circle, Bad Boys Blue & C.C,Catch).
O.K,here we go :
On Saturday the 17. Thomas and I arriwed to Meerane in the afternoon. After
driving around a little in the city we finally found our hotel. (Meerane is the kind
of city, where two crazy fans can get lost very, very easily !) After unpacking we
decided to go straight to the disco to see if we could get permission to look at the
soundcheck before the show. When we arrived there, Silent Circle were doing
their soundcheck. Everybody was quite busy but we got to talk to the owner of
the disco, the manager of C.C.Catch, the manger of Silent Circle and one of the
guys from Silent Circle. We bought the tickets and Antje (C.C.Catch's manager)
told us that if we went to the Park Hotel, where all the stars stayed, she would
arrange for us to sit down and have a talk with Silent Circle, and Fancy would
probably be there too, giving an interview to some TV-Channel. So Thomas and I
headed for the Park Hotel....eeerm, yes, this is where I must admit that we got
completeley lost in this town(!) Eventually we found it, though. Silent Circle
weren't there yet, so we decided to go back to the car to sit and wait outside the
Hotel for the TV-Team and Fancy to come and do the interview as there was still
plenty of time before the show in the evening...
(-This was just like two crazy teenagers around 30 waiting for the Backstreet
Boys or something! But at least we could see the ironic about the situation
ourselves...)
After waiting a while we saw Fancy leaving the hotel to go to the soundcheck in
M4. Quickly we jumped out of the car and took some pictures of Fancy opening
the car window and waving to us and shouting "Hello! - are we going to meet
later on tonight?" He was really nice and friendly.
As we had nothing better to do, we dicided to go to 'M4' too. Maybe we could
catch a glimpse of Fancy's soundcheck...(-hmm hmm, this was where we got lost
in Meerane for the second time...) Well, anyway, we finally found M4 agen, but
only to learn that Fancy had already done his soundcheck and had gone back to
the Park Hotel again!!!
But, of course we could still make it to the meet with Silent Circle, all we had to
do was to go back to the Park Hotel....again.....and They would meet us there,-
Great, the only problem was finding our way back! (I'm sure I don't have to tell
you that this was easier said than done for these two crazy fans with absoluteley
no sence of orientation... - you all get the picture now, right?). On our way we
asked several people for directions. Some streets were blocked at the moment,
others were tiny little - and the fact that darkness was falling didn't exactly help
either... We kept looking, and saying "Gimme a sign!" over and over again :-)
Somewhere along the route we asked a girl for directions. Lucky for us she
offered to go with us and guide us to the Hotel and afterwards to the disco.
So we arriwed at the hotel..... 3 minutes too late! The band had finished their
dinner, and as we came this late they had stopped waiting for us and were now
resting and getting ready for the show. Bad luck :-(((
Now there was not that much time 'till the disco would open the doors officially
for the audience, so the girl guided us back. Outside the M4 we talked to Dave
and Lex De Gore (Fancy's managers). Dave told us that Fancy was going to
perform a brandnew song tonight for the very first time, and that after the show
we would get the chance to meet Fancy.
So we went inside and waited for the show to start...
Suddenly Dave came to us and said to the two of us; I'm sorry about
this, but maybe there will be no show af all!!! - We are still working at the case
backstage, and we hope to solve the problem. It looks like the disco has no money
to pay the artists. I am SO terribly sorry about all this. Please stay here at this
spot, I will keep you informed. - As the two of you travelled this long I will at
least make sure that you can go back to the hotel with me and have a nice talk
with Fancy."
- Try to imagine how dissapointed Thomas and I were at that moment: We had
both travelled hundreds of kilometers for this show !!!
So we stayed and waited and after a little while the staff started to tear down
some of the cables and sound-equipment. Dave came to us again and said that
there would be no show and somebody went on stage to announce that things
weren't looking that good. Thomas and I went outside with Dave and we agreed
with Dave that we should follow his car back to the Park Hotel so we wouldn't
get lost again...
Back at the hotel we sat down on the couch until two of the guys from Silent
Circle came down. Thomas had some of his CD covers signed by the singer from
the band. Then Dave suddently called us back into the hallway: Fancy and a few
other people had now arriwed. We said hello and shook hands... - Then we all
heard - much to everybodys surprise - how Fancy made a quick decision and
announced that he wanted to go on stage and perform for the fans anyway! even
though he wouldn't get a penny for it! He said something like "Come on, let's just
go and have a party and make it a nice evening for the audience anyway!" "- It
doesn't matter, let's just go! - come on!!!" .....So Dave, Fancy and Lex got into
their car and waited for these two 'crazy' fans to follow them and we all drowe
back to M4 again...
Thomas and I agreed that this was the decision of a REAL professional !
We both think he deserves even more credit after all this.
- Respect, Fancy!!!
Back at the disco most of the equipment had been torn down in the meantime, but
it was still possible for Fancy to do a playback show, though. Quickly it was now
announced to the audience that Fancy was going to perform anyway for free, and
then he made his apperance on stage: With lots of energy and an admirably good
mood he made the audience dance, sing along and whistle as he performed his
best songs up there while he danced around and waved to his fans.
He performed songs like Slice Me Nice, Running Man, Bolero, Lady Of Ice,
Flames Of Love & We Can Move A Mountain... During "Megamix '98" he even
dragged me and a few others up on the stage and danced with us!
He also presented Charlie Glas (one of his co-songwriters) to the audience, and
handed out cards - unfortunateley he had forgotten to sign them, though! (-
Probably because everything happend as it did this night...)
When we all started to shout and whistle to make him sing an extra song, he
presented his brandnew song. "This is a premiere: this song is fresh from the
studio and from Charlie Glas - You can't even find it on a CD yet! It's called !Na
Na, Hey Hey, Goodbye'." Then Fancy made everybody sing and clap along to
this brilliant new tune (It's a cover version mixed with new pieces of lyrics).
Fancy left stage while the song was still playing and everybody gathered around
him at the bar to get signatures and have pictures taken together with him. After
this Fancy left the room and went backstage with his managers.
Thomas and I waited at the backstage door 'cause Thomas still hadn't had the
chance to ask Fancy to sign some of his CD covers....
After a little while Fancy came back alone and opened the door, giving the two of
us the sign to follow him upstairs to a little romm backstage. Charlie Glas and a
few other people were there too.
Thomas had his covers signed and we had a nice chat with Fancy...
Charlie Glas made a picture of Thomas, Fancy and me and we also had one made
with Clarlie, Fancy, Thomas and me.
Knowing how far I had travelled for this, Fancy said to me:
''I'm sorry about how this whole concert turned out tonight.....Come and see my
show again some other time!'' Then we all went down the stairs to the disco. We said
goodbye and then Dave, Lex and Fancy left the M4.
Thomas and I stayed for a little while at the disco, and then we found our way
back to our hotel as well...
I hope you all liked reading my report.
Beeing a fan for more then 15 years, I always admired his music and style.
After all this I admire his personality too; he is simply amazing!
Lone Kristensen.
